My Singapore Budget Trip

My very first internatuional BLOG ENTRY ala budget social climbing!!!!

Here in Singapore....BUDGET TERMINAL, on free internet terminals, time limit 15min per user. need to rush baby! Good and bad, the flight was delayed dfor 2 hours giving me a chance to to this blog!

For a social climber like me, he he he, I believe this one is a classic example of how to do it with a tight budget! What happens right now is the sudden influx of cheap flights to local and international destinations that can be booked online. Everyone is empowered by this service and the choices based on thier purchasing power are really given the chance to do what rich people can do. Only that we will boarding the same plane but only seating on different sections. It is basically the same, the same pilot, same crew, same cabin pressure but the only difference is the price tag! Flying on business class is just economy with class and priority. Take note that when in budget, it is a non-issue. Just use the toilet nearest to the business class passengers and let them have a scent of your meal whenever you feel like loosing your digested food mile high. Sorry for that.

There was a slight problem when the booking was made cutting thru 3 days from my workweek. Huh! Anyway, without batting an eyelash, I gave in to the challenge. 5days and 4nights was booked using Tiger Airways SEAIR boarding at DMIA Clark Airport. To do that, we had to stay at SOGO Hotel and witness how the world works at night back there in DAU and how people eagerly check in there. Smiley na lang ako. Now, I am in love with SOGO, So Good So Clean.

The departure was set at 6AM so we had to be there 2 hours early and from our best calculation, we had the taxi service to pick us up at 2:30AM. We arrived in the airport by 3AM, an hour before the whole airport opens and 3 hours before our flight departure. Loosing an hour of sleep is not so good.

Next Blog....will be about the preparations for the Singapore Trip.

While in denial, go travel!

While in denial, go travel!

Back when I was a child, I will just close my eyes and dream that I can go places I only see in books and in our black and white Hitachi cabinet television. We do not have books in our home besides Doctors to the Barrios and the Bible. As for the television, it allowed me to see places in black and white. I had no choice and it felt like we are not that rich. I went to a public school, we do not have our own house, we do not have a car, so on and so forth. Still, my childhood is something I am proud of with the little travel luxuries life offered me.

I grew up in Concepcion, Marikina, left by my parents in Santolan, Pasig and San Mateo, Rizal while they were working, at times we went to Cubao for shopping and strolling and trips around Metro, Manila. The farthest maybe Antipolo for church, Victoria, Laguna to visit my father's relatives, Batangas for family outing and Matnog, Sorsogon to visit my mother's relatives. Uhmmm, not bad at all but not quite travelled. It was only in college and up to now that I got the privilege of exploring the Philippines and the World.

As a student of UPLB and member of a cultural theater organization, it allowed me to spend time and perform in
1) Mayao, Lucena, 2) Tumaini, Isabela 3) Binan, Laguna 4) San Pedro, Laguna5) Alabang, Muntinlupa6) Sucat, Paranaque7) Balayan, Batangas8) Tagaytay, Cavite9) Naga, Camarines Sur10) Legazpi, Albay11) Puerto Galera, Mindoro12) San Pablo, Laguna13) Sta. Social Climbing with a Twist by Anne Applebaum

Found this article in the net, written by Ms. Anne Applebaum and posted in the Washington Post last November 30, 2009, citing historical reference to the social climbing act. She described social climbing as an ancient art, as for me, it is a skill. Funny but I can say that social climbing can be compared with the world's oldest profession, prostitution. :). Every era has one high-society impostor who swindles and are considered phonies known according to Ms. Anne. What motivates them? Wealth and fame!!! The strategy employed by them to enter the society besides leveling with their clothes and appearance, they follow these basic steps: 1) simply act as you belong, 2) do not stare hard on celebrities, 3) do not eat or drink too much, and 4) do engage in little chit-chats.
Stick with all four and you will be able to blend. :) Just be sure not to break rules.

I thought it would take me forever before i drop this addiction.
It is no non-sense.
Difficult as it may seem, i was able to get rid of it.
The addiction was far too strong for me to resist the longing.
Smoking kills!!!

Pit Stop Go Blog

The habit of procrastinating flows in my veins. Long hours of waiting, brainstorming and planning on how make a good start is now in vain. I had it well-conceptualized during the Holy Week as an escape maybe for having nothing to do and having nowhere to go. Was I too busy? Or was I too lazy? Don't get me wrong, I was referring to my commitment to this Budget Social Climbing blog. Some personal issues were raised and it can be likened to the show 'Breaking the Magician's Code.' Am i really going to expose my way of life to the millions of possible readers of my blog? As of press time, I have already amassed118 views :) including me as one of the 3 who follows this blog.
The Author: Monkeying around Palawan last May 2011

Pit stops are points in our lives wherein we were able to finish something and start to accomplish some things again. Maintaining a blog feels like having Great Powers given to Spiderman, where in great power comes greater responsibilities. You cannot just squirt anywhere and make your web. There are rules baby! The point is rather than wasting your time throwing angry birds on annoying greedy green pigs, just go on blogging. Blog about things I promised to share. Social climbing is a skill and is a way of life.

Waking Up After Lunch on a Black Saturday

No GOOD MORNING for today, only GOOD AFTERNOON. I skipped it. Recently, I am getting longer and longer hours of sleep provided there are nothing to cause me to get up. The alarm clocks that I use consists of 2 cellphones (Nokia E63 with Pitbulls' Bon Bon Me No Speak Americano and Nokia XpressMusic with The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) and the TV set at full volume over channel 2 Umagang Kay Ganda.  Nothing beats Winnie Cordero's pitch to wake you up in the morning especially when you need to rush because it is running a little late. For today, it is a whole lot different waking up. The feeling is like a television turning on, from a complete nothing to full showing. Bright lights tend to become too annoying probably because of too much information sent to the brain which is just starting up. (Tanghali na!!!= It's already lunch time!!!) Usually, I get this feeling when I drank too much alcohol the night before. Now what, I was supposed to go to the market to buy food and cook for today. For two days, I have been eating food cooked by my friends and they are challenging me to cook for them to have a taste of my specialty. Maybe because I brag a lot about how good I am when it comes to the kitchen. Come to think of it, when I am cooking I do not normally taste it. Its a habit not to taste but I just sense the flavors by smelling what is going on. Expert! Sometimes I fail, most of the times I don't. Judging from the people I was able to serve the dish, they were all polite in saying how good the food was. Or am I too scary to disappoint? Well, there are no left overs so its enough compliment already or the serving was not enough. Anyway, I am wondering why I feel awful lot sleepy after consuming meals? Is it because now a days I eat my heart out? "Sarap kong kumain!", my friends say. Diet or no diet, we should eat! Wait! Somebody texted me. "Where is our lunch?" OK! I will just finish three cups of coffee, then take a bath, brush my teeth, wear something sunny and then go to market. My friends have no choice but to take their lunch later in the afternoon. Take it or leave it.

Why Blog Social Climber?

From a Social Climber’s Perpective
If life begins at 40, I am 7 years away from having a life. The question now is whether I do have a life or just starting to get one. Quality of life is relative depending on where you are in the social ladder and what your economic status is. This is where social climbing enters the picture. Ooops! Please do not get me wrong about the ‘social climber’ thing. It may sound derogatory but I want to swing it to something that is more socially acceptable. It is like challenging the status quo in a society where clichés are rampant. Branding people as to who belongs to the IN crowd, the RICH and FAMOUS, and to some other feel good position in the society. Break.  From dictionary definitions, being branded as such is not a good thing. For example, Wikipedia claims that a social climber is ‘someone who seeks social prominence, someone who has suddenly risen to a higher economic status but not gained the social acceptance of others, or simply an insult suggesting poor work ethic or disloyalty to roots.’ Hmmm that was intense. The more I dig into the concept of what a social climber is; it seems harder to swing it to a better vantage point. Living a life that is full will be dependent on how you look at life and at yourself. Oh well! In time, I am sure that you will get my point. The basic idea of why I am blogging is to let you guys see that socially we should be responsible with our actions. It is not what you know but it is who you know that matters. Joke. Kidding aside, there should be minimal to no effort at all in being accepted socially. It is OK to show people who we are and what we can do. For the resources part, just stay within your budget and never forget where you are. In this area, it’s just arithmetic and the science of timing. When opportunity knocks, do not rush to open the door. First, use your instinct if the knock was made on the door, maybe what you heard as a knock is actually a tap on the window or a strike on the wall. Second, calculate how far you are from the knock. Simple! Need I say more?

Jepoy? Hmmm... what can I say about this guy? Known him since my primary years via " Dulaang Paslit" - a theater competition all over metropoloitan manila where we won! (the good old days!)

He was also my senior in secondary years in MIST, where i gotta known him as a very intelligent, religious, natural-born leader and also a born comic.

One of the most admired "kuya" in his batch...

Jepoy - a person whos multifaceted and multi talented personality compares to no one!

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know
what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you
have expressed. They have come to assist you through adifficulty, to provide you with guidance and support,
to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are
there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at
an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer
you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never
done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.!

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid
emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned
to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is
    clairvoyant.

Thank you for being a part of my life, whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime.
